Brownie may have been created by accident. One popular story says a baker forgot to add baking powder to a chocolate cake recipe and ended up with a dense, fudgy dessert instead. That “mistake” eventually became one of the world’s favorite treats.

Brownie Recipe
Preparation Time: 15 minutes
Baking Time: 30–35 minutes
Servings: 9–12 brownies
Ingredients
- ½ cup (115 g) unsalted butter
- 1 cup (200 g) sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- ⅓ cup (40 g) cocoa powder
- ½ cup (65 g) all-purpose flour
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- ¼ teaspoon baking powder
- ½ cup chocolate chips (optional)
- ½ cup chopped walnuts or almonds (optional)
Equipment
- Mixing bowl
- Whisk or spoon
- 8-inch square baking pan
- Baking paper or butter for greasing
Instructions
Step 1: Preheat the oven
Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F). Grease the baking pan lightly or line it with baking paper.
Step 2: Melt the butter
Place the butter in a microwave-safe bowl or small pan and melt it completely. Allow it to cool slightly.
Step 3: Mix sugar and butter
Pour the melted butter into a large bowl and add the sugar. Stir well until combined.
Step 4: Add eggs and vanilla
Crack in the eggs one at a time and whisk until smooth. Add vanilla extract and mix again.
Step 5: Add dry ingredients
Sift cocoa powder, flour, salt, and baking powder into the bowl. Mix gently until no dry flour remains. Do not overmix because it can make brownies less soft.
Step 6: Add extras
Fold in chocolate chips or nuts if using.
Step 7: Pour into pan
Pour the batter into the prepared pan and spread evenly.
Step 8: Bake
Bake for 30–35 minutes. To check if they're ready, insert a toothpick in the center. A few moist crumbs are perfect; wet batter means it needs more time.
Step 9: Cool and cut
Allow the brownies to cool for about 20–30 minutes before cutting into squares.
Serving Ideas
- Dust with powdered sugar
- Serve with vanilla ice cream
- Add chocolate sauce or fresh berries
- Enjoy warm with milk or coffee
Tip: For extra fudgy brownies, slightly reduce the baking time by 2–3 minutes.
